My Version of the Zelda Timeline Empty
PostSubject: My Version of the Zelda Timeline   My Version of the Zelda Timeline EmptyFri Oct 21, 2011 1:07 pm

So, with Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword just a month away, I'm in a huge LoZ mood right now. Next month, there will have been 16 games over the past 25 years, so I'm going to list my version of the Zelda timeline, because why not. I’m gonna ignore the whole timeline split thing because, well, it would make everything too complicated (with having to figure out which games belong on which timeline and all).

Also, don't look directly at the plot holes.

1. Skyward Sword - Not only is this game is supposed to explain the origin of the Master Sword, which is seen time and time again throughout the series, but it takes place hundreds of years before Hyrule, where the majority of the games take place, is even founded.

2. Minish Cap - This game explains where Link got his iconic cap, which is worn by him in every game in the series. It also explains the origin of the Four Sword and Vaati, which are both seen in a couple other games.

3. Four Sword - This game takes place sometime after Minish Cap, and it is all about the same Link. The story features the Four Sword and Vaati's return to power.

4. Four Swords Adventures - Once again, this is the Link as Minish Cap and Four Sword, and the final game in the Four Sword series. This game features the origin of Ganondorf (a similar origin to Ocarina of Time, but a bit different), as well as the origin of Ganon's trident.

5. Ocarina of Time - This is where it becomes a lot of guesswork. This game has a different origin story for Ganondorf from Four Swords Adventures. Oddly enough, Ganon does not use a trident in this game, leading to believe that maybe it comes before the Four Sword series.. but.. the whole Link's cap thing... Bleeeeeh, ignore the plot holes!

6. Majora's Mask - Majora's mask is a direct sequel to Ocarina of Time, taking place in the land of Termina, rather than Hyrule. Not much else to say here.

7. Oracle of Ages/Oracle of Seasons - I put these two together because the chronological order of these games depends on the order you played them. The overlying storyline between the two is Kotake and Koume (AKA Twinrova) attempting to resurrect Ganon. Because I wasn't sure which incarnation of Ganon they were trying to resurrect, I went ahead and put this game after Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask, since they're the only other games in the series to feature Ganon's lackeys, Kotake and Koume

8. Link to the Past - Link to the Past is probably the Zelda game I know the least about.. so.. I'm just placing it here randomly! =D

9. Legend of Zelda - The story of this game isn't that complicated, but it involves Ganon breaking free from the Dark World. Link to the Past has Dark World stuff, right? So that would put it after Link to the Past, right? Just go with that.

10. The Adventure of Link - This is a direct sequel to Legend of Zelda. The game over screen says all I need to say here. GAME OVER. RETURN OF GANON.

11. Link's Awakening - While the storyline of this game doesn't have much to do with the others, I'm pretty sure it's supposed to feature the same Link as Legend of Zelda and Adventure of Link. It starts off with Link on a random sailing voyage, looking for more trouble or something, I guess, and he gets shipwrecked in a storm and floats to a mysterious island. There, he meets a girl that he mistakes for Zelda. If he already knows Zelda, it's gotta be the same Link, right?

12. Twilight Princess - This game doesn't have much relation to the rest of the timeline, so I don't have much to go on. I will go with the fact that the Gorons of Death Mountain in this game are far more technologically advanced that any of the other games that take place in Hyrule. Because of this, it has to be the closer to the flooding of Hyrule than any of the others.

13. Wind Waker - In this game, Hyrule has been flooded, so any game that takes place in Hyrule has to be before it. On top of that, zoras are extinct in this game, ruling out the possibility of the Oracle games taking place after it.

14. Phantom Hourglass - Direct sequel to Wind Waker. Not much to say other than that.

15. Spirit Tracks - Takes place 100 years after Phantom Hourglass in the land of New Hyrule. It's pretty obvious it's the last in the series (to date).

And there you have it, my version of the Legend of Zelda timeline. Once again, please try to ignore the plot holes. I pointed out most of the big ones, but it is impossible to make a Zelda timeline WITHOUT plot holes..

You know what? I feel like I just solved a Professor Layton puzzle..

HYRULE IS FLOODED? I bet the undiscovered hyrule is the main city you play in in SS.

Good timeline btw.

Out of those I have only played Four Swords and Twilight Princess, unless you count the SSBB demo of Ocarina of Time.
And out of those I haven't finished any.

"All of the games are within one timeline for the entire series, but that timeline is a secret that I cannot reveal," Aonuma told GTTV at the recent Legend of Zelda 25th Anniversary concert.

That's right. One timeline. How does this explain the whole Majora's Mask/Wind Waker thing! Why must you confuse me like this, Nintendo!

[I know that I made it one timeline, but I did go with the whole split timeline thing. It just would have been far to confusing for me.]

I made a quick change to the timeline. After playing Skyward Sword, I realize there's nothing that stops Minish Cap and the Four Sword series from being before it. Skyward Sword is now number 4.

I'm switching Skyward Sword and the Four Swords arc again. Lol. We'll know how close I am tomorrow.

I sure hope the split timeline theory is accurate.
It would DRASTICALLY mess your timeline up though, Jeff.

It would, but I'm sticking with my theories. I'm pretty confident in it being a single timeline now. But we'll see tomorrow.

mm i believe link's awakening should be immediately after link to the past, i believe i read somewhere that after developing a link to the past for snes, a small part of the development team tried porting it to gameboy, but after realizing the limitations they made the master piece that is link's awakening and intended for it to be link going on an adventure right after saving the world in the snes game, i guess it was supposed to be a vacation.
also there is some theories the main boss in skyward sword and link's awakening are the same person, so that could altar the timeline, or it just means he returned for vengeance years later.

I really, really, like link's awakening. a lot. seriously.
