Come On Irene Empty
PostSubject: Come On Irene   Come On Irene EmptyMon Aug 29, 2011 9:46 am

So, Hurricane Irene (now Tropical Storm Irene) hit us on Saturday, and we've been without power until this morning, we finally got it back. It was horrible! No internet, no video games, no movies, no refrigeration, and no lights. But none of those even compare to the worst thing. We had no air conditioning. It was over a hundred degrees outside the day after the hurricane, and we had no air conditioning! So basically we spent the past couple days lying around on the floor complaining about the heat. I'm not sure how people lived before air conditioning came around.

All rants and song parodies aside, fifteen people did lose their lives to Irene, so a moment of silence for them.

You poor thing! We didn't have power for a while either. It stays cool up here though. And it wasn't that strong by the time it got here, just a lot of rain and wind. I'm glad you made it. I heard your area got hit pretty hard.

Nah, it missed us completely actually. It did hit closer to the water, but where it really hit, the power was only out for like half an hour..

I've never been in a hurricane before... We don't get hurricanes on the west coast, nor do we get tornadoes.

I actually slept through most of it when Irene was moving through Massachusetts.

We didn't lose power as well, which was lucky.

Where I live I have never experienced an extreme natural disaster. Instead There's six months of pure cold where going outside for anything is a chore.

I've always wanted to go to Canada. I hear it's a nice place.

I pretty much hibernated through the whole thing. No power? Nothing to do!

Glad you are all OK...I don't think there's ever been a hurricane/tornado/typhoon etc around here. Don't get disasters often.
And when you said 100 degrees I freaked out until I remembered that you use a different form of heat measurement than we do. We use celcius.
But...no games? Harsh.

Victoria and Vancouver are probably the complete opposite of my opinion of Canada. Overcrowded cities and warm weather. For a general idea of Canada I think Banff and Jasper (Near the Mountains). There there's always snow, clean water, open spaces and the never-ending fear of being attacked by a wild animal.
