So I just beat Ocarina of Time

For the first time in my life. When I played the first time on Wii's Virtual Console, I got to Ganon's Castle and just.. stopped for some reason. Today, I beat the 3DS version. I think I can officially call myself a Zelda fan now.

Not until you've beaten the original.
After all, it was the only game in the series at the time of it's release, obviously.
Beating that one seems to be more of a prerequisite of being a Zelda fan than OoT.

But OoT was more groundbreaking, and it's the game that comes to most people's minds when they think of the series.

And the sword doesn't slash sideways in the original!

All the more reason.

If you don't know the classics, how can you be a fan?

Also, Sheik is the only impact that made a game great.

Probably not, but still maybe yes or no but it's totally true.

I wish I could have experienced the whole who Sheik really is thing. But because of Super Smash Bros. Melee, everything was ruined!
